Portrait Poses With Limited Time & Space
As a photographer, I work with a limited time frame in the evenings. In this collection: five poses were achieved by just moving 360 around my subject. Generally, I am familiar with the locations that I take my clients to; however, the following were either: spur of the moment or new territory. I’m going to take you through a collection of photos.
Shania’s Softball Photos
I have now photographed Shania and both of her sisters. Throughout the years we have stayed with a trend of taking sports photos in unexpected locations with unusual outfits. They generally involve a dress and some type of nature scene.
We were on our way to one of our locations and this road yelled to me “STOP HERE FOR PICTURES!” Ok, no it didn’t – but I just had this feeling that it would be good.
We stopped the car, both hopped out I walked a complete circle around her quickly scoping out all of the scenery.
During this portion of our shoot, Shania stayed in the same spot and adjusted slightly as I instructed her to as I moved around.
Shania Red Dress Poses
We then repeated the scene without the softball glove.
If you look closely you can see that Shania did not mover her leg positioning at all during this burst of shots. I was able to cover a full body / full scene photo as well as some great close-ups in a 5 minute time frame. I started with the top right of Shania looking at the flowers. I then had her lift her head just a little and peer at me through her hair with a smile. From there, I had her brush away a little of her hair and level her chin for a nice portrait. Finally, I had her lower the flowers and lift her right hand to lightly hang on to a piece of her necklace.
This one was easy. I instructed these beauties to have some fun dancing, hugging, and telling secrets. I gave them some instruction on where to look, but mostly this was their personalities photographed in 5 minutes. It was a freezing cold Omaha, NE morning!
Dennis Sports Poses
This one went so quickly; I didn’t even realize how many photos I had until returning to the office to download. I arrived to this lovely backdrop halfway assembled by his awesome mom. I quickly helped her adjust the uniforms by color, we tossed him in the scene and he rocked this photo shoot!
I hope these photos inspire you and give you some ideas of how to grab several shots with limited time. Don’t be afraid to move, walk in circles, lay on your stomach, stand on a ladder – whatever you must do to get the shot!
